Crash shuts Route 95 in Newburyport

NEWBURYPORT (AP) — Massachusetts state police say several people have been injured in a crash involving a fuel tanker truck and two cars that has shut down Interstate 95 in Newburyport.

Trooper Eric Benson says the crash occurred in the northbound lanes just before the Route 113 exit at about 9:15 a.m. Monday. He said the truck is leaking fuel.

Benson says the southbound lanes of the highway also were closed to allow a medical evacuation helicopter to land. Traffic was diverted off the highway and around the accident scene.

The number of people injured was not immediately known.
