Beaches safe for swimming

MARBLEHEAD — It's safe to go back in the water.

Devereux Beach reopened yesterday, a week after health officials closed it and three other beaches for high bacteria levels.

It was the first time since June 2005 that the beach was closed for contamination exceeding safe limits.

Grace Oliver's Beach, Gas House Beach, Stramski's Beach and a section of Crocker Park were also closed because of elevated bacteria counts last Friday.

As of yesterday, however, all beaches were open.
