SALEM — A developer, a banker, a college president and the co-owner of an Italian restaurant have been nominated for this year's top business awards by the Salem Chamber of Commerce.
The winners in six categories will be announced at the "Celebrate Salem Awards," the chamber's 89th annual dinner, which will be held April 27 at the Peabody Essex Museum.
The nominees for businessman of the year are Bill Goldberg of Goldberg Properties, George Harrington of The Lyceum, Jeff Havlicek of Excelerate Energy, David McKillop of Rockafellas, Bruce Whear of Wire 4 Hire and Bill Howard, the president of Beverly Cooperative Bank.
Businesswoman of the year nominees include Gina Deschamps of Deschamps Publishing, Paula Graziani of Caffe Graziani, Salem State University President Patricia Meservey, Sivan Sergot of Treasures Over Time, Ann Sousa of Body & Soul Massage and Wellness Center, and Kim Tenenbaum of Urban Elements.
The competition for new business of the year is among Adriatic Restaurant, Green Land Cafe, Milk & Honey Green Grocer, Mud Puddle Toys, Yoga Saki and Zipcar.
Nominated for the long-term achievement award are Bernard's Jewelers, Gardner Mattress, The Grapevine, Jerrie Hildebrand of Kishgraphics, Soucy Insurance and Winer Hardware.
The community service award finalists are John Boris of John A. Boris & Associates, Matt Caruso of Salem Sounds, Robert Lappin of Shetland Park, the National Park Service Visitor Center, the North Shore Medical Center Cancer Walk, and the St. Joseph Food Pantry.
The nominations for the excellence in retail award are Flowers by Darlene/North Shore Fruit Basket, Mighty Aphrodite, the PEM store, Roost & Beehive, Urban Elements, and Witch Tees.
