IPSWICH — An Ipswich teenager who was involved in a one-car crash on Magnolia Avenue in Gloucester early Friday morning is facing charges in the accident's aftermath.
According to police reports, Alden Burnham, 17, of 38 Kimball Ave., violated the Massachusetts junior drivers' license laws when he crashed his car at 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Under the state's junior operator laws, drivers under the age of 18 cannot operate a car from midnight to 5 a.m. Burnham was also charged with speeding.
Police were called to the scene at 1:30 a.m. Friday on reports that Burnham's vehicle was in the middle of the road with its hazard lights on.
When police arrived, Burnham told them he had slid on the snow-covered road into a rock, some 15 feet off Magnolia Avenue near the MBTA rail bridge. Police said there was 4 inches of unplowed snow on the ground and 40 feet of skid marks on the road.
Burnham, who was able to back his car out of the woods and onto the road, was evaluated by paramedics on the scene, but was not injured.
