Man injured in 20-foot fall

PEABODY — A man was taken to a Boston hospital yesterday after he fell roughly 20 feet through the floor at a vacant factory building on Corwin Street.

Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the former L Fine factory building around 6 p.m. yesterday.

The man had been on the second floor and fell through — roughly 20 feet — to a concrete floor below, said Deputy fire Chief Joe Daly.

He suffered “considerable trauma” and was complaining of back, pelvic and wrist pain. He was alert and talking, but “pretty banged up,” Daly said.

The man was taken directly to Massachusetts General Hospital via Atlantic Ambulance, he said. His injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

The dilapidated L Fine building on Corwin Street has been vacant for decades. Although it is boarded up, people can still get inside, Daly said.

Daly said he did not think the injured man was in the building for any malicious reason.

The man might have been in the building to take photographs and was “harmless,” Daly said.
