PEABODY — The 75-year-old Peabody woman who was struck in a hit-and-run accident on Friday evening has died from her injuries.
Patricia Fleury, of 20 Central St., Peabody, was taken by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital after being seriously injured during the accident, which occurred as she crossed the street near her home. She remained in critical condition in the hospital until her death around 8:30 p.m. Monday, family members said.
“Mass General made Herculean efforts to try and keep her with us, but her body was too badly broken,” Ed McQuarrie, Fleury’s son-in-law, wrote in an email. “She was a sweet, sweet woman and will be dearly missed.”
Fleury was reported to have been struck around 8:45 p.m., according to police scanner reports that night. Witnesses said a red Nissan sedan fled the scene and was headed on Central Street toward Route 114 and Danvers.
Kristiana M. Alexandrou, 24, of 12 Fowler St., Danvers, turned herself in to Danvers police later that night, saying she hit someone while driving in Peabody. She drove the car home after the accident and walked to the Danvers police station to report the accident, according to police.
Alexandrou is expected to be summonsed to court on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, according to police.
Peabody Capt. Dennis Bonaiuto said the case remains under investigation and referred all questions to the district attorney’s office.
Steve O’Connell, a spokesman for the district attorney, said there was no further information to release.
