---- — BEVERLY — The Beverly Police Department’s domestic violence unit will host several events throughout October in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The campaign was scheduled to kick off today at 11 a.m. with the setting up of a teardrop display next to City Hall, with each tear representing a client who was served through the domestic violence unit over the past year.

On Monday, Oct. 22, a silent witness display on Beverly Common will be unveiled at noon. Life-size wooden silhouettes painted red will bear the names of Massachusetts domestic violence victims.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, the first Beverly Domestic Violence 4-Mile Run will be held at West Beach. The silent witness display will be at the finish line.

For the entire month of October, the Beverly Police Department has placed purple ribbons on the antennas of all cruisers to show support to victims and survivors and to raise awareness of domestic violence. Purple pins and ribbons will be distributed to members of the community throughout the month.
