Police charge Salem man with trafficking cocaine

SALEM — Police arrested two men yesterday after a monthlong investigation into drug activity in the area of the Colonial Terrace housing development.

Detective Brian St. Pierre said Diomedes Lugo, 23, of 5 Colonial Terrace, Apt. C, was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, trafficking of a Class B substance and illegal possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute (subsequent offense).

Lugo became the focus of the probe and was allegedly found to be in possession of 26.7 grams of cocaine and about 8 grams of heroin when officers executed a search warrant at his apartment yesterday, St. Pierre said.

Also arrested during the search was Jeffrey Luszcs, 23, of 9 Fairview Road, Marblehead, on a charge of illegal possession of a Class A substance.

Police seized almost $1,300 in cash and numerous cellphones during the raid, St. Pierre said.

St. Pierre said the investigation began after “countless” complaints of suspicious activity from area residents.

“This should put a dent in the illegal narcotics activity that was reported to us in that area,” St. Pierre said.
