Police: Hit-and-run driver left clue

---- — SALEM — A woman driver charged with running into another car on Dodge Street and then speeding away without stopping may have broken the first rule of hitting and running.

Responding to the scene at 8:16 p.m., police discovered that she left something behind — her front bumper, still containing her license plate. It lay on the ground next to the parked vehicle police say she struck. Police traced the plate to a 51-year-old Tewksbury woman.

A witness said the woman appeared disorientated and confused as she drove off. A description of the hit-and-run driver is said to resemble the license photo of the owner of the license plate. Officers have been unable to contact her, but she will be summonsed.
