Cummings Center building evacuated after dump truck crash

BEVERLY — A dump truck crash late this morning at the Cummings Center in Beverly has forced road closures and one of the buildings to be evacuated.

Elliott and McKay streets remain closed to traffic.

According to Beverly police, a dump truck traveling west on Elliott Street went off the road and into the Cummings Center parking garage by McKay Street. As a result, diesel fuel from the truck began to leak into the garage's first floor. The businesses in that building were evacuated as a precaution.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and have called state police to the scene.

The driver is OK, according to police.

Check back for more details as they become available.
