WEB UPDATE: Beverly-Salem train bridge reopens

The railroad bridge between Beverly and Salem reopened to trains at 2:30 p.m. today, according to the MBTA.

The bridge had closed at 7 a.m. when a gear box failed, preventing the bridge operator from locking the bridge back into place after it had opened to allow a boat to pass through. It's the third time in the last month that the bridge was forced to close.
