Ehrlich, Blaisdell advance in state rep primary

Democrat Lori Ehrlich and Republican John Blaisdell won Tuesday's primary and will advance to the special election next month for state representative of the 8th Essex District.

The district, which includes Marblehead, Swampscott and part of Lynn, cast 6,214 votes for Ehrlich and 2,704 for Blaisdell, pushing them past Democrat Cesar Archilla and Republican Tanya DeGenova.

Independent candidate Mark Barry will also vie for the seat in the March 4 election. The state rep job opened when Rep. Doug Petersen, D-Marblehead, left to become Massachusetts' commissioner of agriculture.
