Fire damages home in Beverly

BEVERLY — A two-alarm fire caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage to a house on Radcliff Road on Saturday.

All of the occupants and four cats escaped unharmed, according to the Beverly Fire Department. One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

Fire Capt. Peter O'Connor, the department spokesman, said the fire was caused by an electrical problem inside a wall.

A caller reported the fire at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Firefighter Glen Sihpol and the crew of Engine 5 found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the single-story ranch-style home at 21 Radcliff Road in the Raymond Farms neighborhood. All of the occupants were safely outside the house.

Firefighters from Hamilton, Wenham and Salem assisted at the scene. Crews from Hamilton and Salem cut holes in the roof to allow smoke and heat to escape, while crews from Beverly and Wenham worked underneath to expose the fire hidden by the ceilings.

Beverly fire Lt. Robert Bergeron found the ignition source inside a wall and determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature, according to the Fire Department.

The occupants of the house are staying with friends and family. Crews from Danvers, Middleton and Manchester covered the Beverly stations during the fire.
