Child-porn convict jailed after library visit

BEVERLY — A former Beverly man who had been ordered to stay away from children after his conviction on child pornography charges two years ago was sent back to jail yesterday, after Quincy police found him sitting in a public library near a high school in March.

Robert Curry, 24, has been on probation after serving part of a 21/2-year sentence for having child porn on his computer and a Palm Pilot. The porn was discovered in October 2004, after Curry was taken to the hospital and his roommate went to look for phone numbers for Curry's family on his Palm Pilot. When he turned on the device, graphic images of very young children popped up on the screen.

Police later seized the device and a computer it was connected to and found more images on the hard drive, according to a police report.

On March 29, Quincy police got a call from a librarian who said there were men there discussing drug use. One of the men, Curry, was allegedly carrying pills.

Probation officer Patrick Goff called a Quincy police officer to testify that the library is frequented by children and is less than 100 yards from a high school in that city.

Based on that, Salem District Court Judge Richard Mori ordered Curry back to jail to complete the 21/2-year jail term.
