Detail officers in Danvers nearly hit by truck

By Ethan Forman

DANVERS — A pair of police officers escaped injury when an alleged drunken driver nearly hit them with a pickup truck while they were working a detail on Endicott Street early yesterday morning, police said.

The suspect, Matthew Misci, fled onto Route 128 south and was arrested on Dearborn Road in Peabody by the Massachusetts State Police, said Danvers police Sgt. Robert Bettencourt.

State police Lt. Eric Anderson said Misci, 30, of Revere, was arrested at 12:33 a.m. yesterday and charged with drunken driving, a marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a Class D substance. Anderson said he knew of no charges relating to the reported Endicott Street incident.

Bettencourt said three people were in the Ford F-150 pickup truck when Misci was arrested. Anderson said he didn't know if the passengers were arrested or charged with any crimes.

The officers working the police detail were Danvers Patrolman John Melto and Boxford Officer Rob Corliss.

State Trooper Brad Sullivan made the arrest.
