SALEM — Neighbors will have a second chance to weigh in on the new residence hall that Salem State College is looking to build on Central Campus.
The college is hosting a public meeting about the plans for the dorm on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Enterprise Center.
The college held the first public meeting in late June and laid out details for a five-story, pod-style dorm with a dining hall and a large courtyard. Sophomores would move into the dorm by the beginning of the 2010 school year.
Tuesday's hearing will be hosted by Salem State College, DiMella Shaffer Architects and the Massachusetts State College Building Authority, which released a study in March recommending Salem State build a second residence hall at Central Campus.
"It's going to be a neighborhood meeting for people to express their concerns for the dorm we are proposing for Central Campus," said college spokesman Jim Glynn. "We just want to get the word out so people are aware."
The college plans to build the 430-bed residence hall next to a recently built dorm, part of a plan to encourage more undergraduates to live on campus. The pod-style living arrangement for mostly sophomores would be a combination of the structured freshman dorms and apartment-style residences for upperclassmen.
