Because sudden cardiac arrest and other heart problems can be detected before tragedy strikes, the Kiwanis Club of Danvers will partner with HeartScreen America to offer heart screening services to the Danvers community.
Dan Bennett, president-elect of the club, said this fits with the goal of increasing the club's impact in the community.
Many heart conditions can be detected with a simple, painless, noninvasive test, the electrocardiogram (often called an ECG or EKG). The heart screening will include an EKG, which will be reviewed by a cardiologist. Other services available include a family and personal heart health questionnaire, get a blood pressure reading, a body mass index calculation, and cholesterol and glucose readings. Results will be sent directly to the home so this information can be shared with the client's physician.
The program will be held at Danvers High School on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Screenings will be open to students, faculty and the local community (age 6 and up). Screenings cost $49 to $69, depending on the number of tests desired.
The first 100 high school students to register will receive their HeartScreen Basic for $19, courtesy of the Kiwanis Club. Typically, this test is not provided to children or covered by health insurance unless there are symptoms or a strong family history.
To register, visit www.HeartScreenAmerica.com or call 866-722-8008 by Sept. 10. No walk-ins can be accepted.
