Toddler who fell out of window in Salem dies

SALEM — A toddler who fell from a second-story window at the Pequot Highland apartment building earlier this month has died.

Adrien Nazario, 3, was rushed to the hospital Sept. 1 after he pushed through the window screen on the second floor and landed on the sidewalk.

He died Wednesday at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Nazario was born in Salem and loved cars, watching Thomas the Tank Engine cartoons and playing at the park. He was also fond of the character Lightning McQueen from the film "Cars," according to an obituary provided by the family.

Nazario had suffered a skull fracture from the fall and spent his third birthday at the hospital.

The family declined comment yesterday.

Shortly after the accident, Joe Thifault, the property manager at Pequot Highlands, said it was the first time a child had fallen out of a window in the apartment building and pledged to make any changes if needed. He could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Nazario's parents are Liliana Bernier and Alexis Nazario, both of Salem. He also had three sisters and a large extended family.

His funeral will be held at St. Anne's Church in Salem tomorrow at 9 a.m.
