Missing woman found behind police station

HAMILTON — Susan Scherer, the 55-year-old Hamilton woman who was missing for just over 24 hours, was found at 8:15 this morning, in an unused car parked behind the Hamilton police station.

Scherer was disoriented, but otherwise appeared to be in good shape, police Sgt. Scott Jaynes said. She was transported to Beverly Hospital for evaluation. She was listed in good condition this afternoon.

Scherer walked away from an assisted-living center less than half a mile from the police station at 5 a.m. Wednesday. She was described as having a medical condition that required medication.

Anti-turbine group gets boost from Falmouth

SALEM — Recent tests showing that a wind turbine in Falmouth exceeded state noise guidelines has bolstered a local group trying to block a turbine planned for Winter Island.
Peter Carlton of Salem Wind, a group fighting the proposed Salem turbine, said the latest test results prove that wind turbines are much noisier than predicted in the studies done by local municipalities.

DANVERS — A rather workman-like and expanded Town Meeting that lacked the drama of some recent gatherings passed a net appropriation of $91.6 million for the town's budget, debated whether to create Habitat for Humanity homes at the former Danversport School property and shot down a police proposal to require fingerprint background check for those peddling door-to-door.

'Quiz Show' team triumphs over competition

HAMILTON — Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School is the "High School Quiz Show" champion for the second year in a row.
The series' championship match — in which Hamilton-Wenham beat a team from Arlington High School — was filmed in February but aired on Sunday.

HSI gives out awards for preservation

SALEM — Two homeowners, a rooming house owner and leaders of a historic church were among those honored this month by Historic Salem Inc. with 2012 preservation awards.
Stephen Morris, who owned a rooming house at 315-317 Essex St. that had been a source of neighborhood complaints, was recognized for transforming the property into six condominiums. HSI said he worked with local architect Morris Schopf, "to create an exterior that fits seamlessly into the McIntire Historic District."
