Before your little princess or monster hits the streets with a pillowcase and candy dreams, check out what time your town has designated for trick-or-treating:

Go to homes you know in your neighborhood.
Check the candy before eating it and throw away anything unwrapped.
Use makeup instead of a mask, or take the mask off when walking from house to house.
Have a planned route and stick to it. Avoid shortcuts and hidden paths.
A light above the door is an invitation: "If the light is not on, then goblins be gone."
Go out in a group; never travel alone.
Use sidewalks. If there isn't one, stay on the left side facing traffic.
Drivers: Be aware of little monsters around the streets.
Set a time for children to be home.
