Man injured in knifepoint robbery

PEABODY — Police say a man was robbed at knifepoint on Thursday night after he left his girlfriend’s residence on Essex Green Lane.

Lt. Arthur Yeo said the victim had just left his girlfriend’s apartment at about 11:30 p.m. when a man walked up behind him, put a knife to his back and demanded the man’s wallet.

The victim handed the wallet over, but a fight ensued between the two. The victim was struck several times in the face, causing bruising. He also sustained open wounds to his knees and cuts and scratches to his arms and hands, Yeo said.

After the altercation, the robber made off on foot with the man’s wallet, which contained $320 in cash, credit cards and prepaid gift cards, according to the incident log.

The suspect was described as a homeless-looking man with dark sneakers.

The victim drove himself to the hospital for treatment after the altercation.

Police didn’t find out about the robbery until 1:48 a.m. yesterday, according to the log.
