Snow forecast extends school break for most on the North Shore

With heavy snow, extreme cold and near blizzard conditions predicted Thursday and Friday, most North Shore school districts decided to give the kids on school break an extra few days off.

Salem called off school Thursday and Friday, according to its website and a post on Twitter by Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll.

Beverly, too, called off school until Monday, according to a Twitter post and a phone call to parents.

The Peabody Public Schools’ Twitter account and website said no school Thursday and Friday. Danvers also put the word out on social media to keep kids home both days for the storm.

Hamilton-Wenham’s schools were closed until Monday.

Swampscott’s schools website and a phone call to parents announced schools were closed Thursday and Friday.

Ipswich schools are closed Thursday, according to the School Department’s website and the Ipswich Police Department’s Twitter account.

Marblehead police reported schools were closed Thursday because of the impending storm. The town was also under a coastal flood watch, police said.

As for parking, the Peabody Department of Public Services announced its snow parking ban started Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Cars cannot be parked on city streets until the ban is rescinded.
