The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a Boating Skills and Seamanship Course beginning Wednesday, Feb. 26, and continuing for nine consecutive Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Jubilee Yacht Club on Water Street in Beverly. Pingree School will host the Learning in Commons Conference on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 537 Highland St., South Hamilton, where more than 150 educators from throughout the country are expected to attend. The conference will explore the cutting-edge concepts behind transforming traditional academic libraries into technologically sophisticated, collaborative centers of learning. The keynote speaker is David Weinberger, co-director of the Harvard University Innovation Lab and senior researcher at the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet & Society. The closing speaker will be D. Russell Bailey, Providence College Library director and co-author of “Transforming Library Service Through Information Commons: Case Studies for the Digital Age.” For more information, visit www.pingree.org/learningincommons.

Peabody Institute Library will offer its Food for Fines program through Feb. 14. Donations of canned goods and other nonperishable items will be accepted to clear overdue fines on Peabody-owned library materials. The program will run at Peabody’s Main Library at 82 Main St., its South Branch Library at 78 Lynn St. and the West Branch Library at 603 Lowell St. All donations benefit Peabody’s Haven From Hunger. Emotions Anonymous, a 12-step organization similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, will meet weekly for the purpose of working toward recovery from emotional difficulties. Members are from many walks of life and are of diverse ages, economic statuses, and social and educational backgrounds. The only requirement for membership is a desire to become well emotionally.
