DANVERS — When police arrived to find a car on its roof and a damaged light pole on Valley Road early yesterday morning, they wound up with a mystery on their hands.
The accident, which took place across the street from Connors Farm’s farm stand, was reported to police at 2:46 a.m. yesterday, police Capt. Pat Ambrose said. A passing motorist called police to report seeing a car on the side of the road on its roof, Ambrose said. The vehicle apparently had rolled over several times.
When police arrived, the driver was nowhere to be found.
The incident touched off a search for the driver in the nearby fields with the police K-9 unit and an infrared camera.
“We were concerned someone was laying out in the fields,” Ambrose said.
Police tried to track down the operator through the vehicle’s information but had little success.
Police eventually spoke with the driver later yesterday morning. Ambrose said the incident is under investigation, but that no criminal charges were pending as of yesterday afternoon. Danvers Electric Division was called to fix the pole that had been struck.
Patrolman Michael Molk is the investigating officer.
