---- — DANVERS — Police are investigating an accident on Monday night that killed 45-year-old Steven Gaulin, apparently as he attempted to walk across Route 114.

The accident occurred at 7:45 p.m., where Route 114 intersects with the on-ramp for Route 95 north, according to Danvers police Lt. Robert Bettencourt. Gaulin was treated at the scene and then taken to Beverly Hospital, where he died, police said.

Bettencourt said the driver of the vehicle, a 2005 Ford Taurus, was an 18-year-old Peabody woman, who was “traumatized” by the accident, he said. She was also taken to Beverly Hospital, where she was treated and released. Her name is not being released while the investigation is underway, but Bettencourt expected it would be released soon.

No citation has been issued.

Police had two addresses for Gaulin, including 56 River St. in Beverly, the location of the River House shelter for the homeless. He had been staying more recently at the Motel 6.

Kevin Chaklos, a worker at River House, said he didn’t think Gaulin had been there recently.

“I’ve been here a couple of years, and I don’t recall him,” he said.

State Trooper David Timperio is conducting the investigation, along with Danvers officer Justin Ellenton.
