Hamilton and Wenham officials postpone trick-or-treating until Saturday

HAMILTON-WENHAM — Town officials in Hamilton and Wenham decided mid-day today to postpone Halloween trick-or-treating until Saturday.

The decision was made for safety's sake, as several roads in the two towns are closed because of downed power lines and hundreds of residents remain without power in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Youngsters should go trick-or-treating Saturday, Nov. 3, between 5 and 8 p.m.

Hamilton and Wenham residents were alerted to the delay mid-day today in reverse-911 messages.

In the messages, Wenham Interim Police Chief Thomas Perkins and Hamilton Police Chief Russell Stevens both said they had been working with National Grid, but were unsure of when power will be fully restored. They urged residents who are without power to "make preparations (to be without power) until midnight on Thursday."

If residents are in need of emergency assistance, including shelter, contact the Hamilton-Wenham emergency center at 978-468-4000.

See www.hamiltonma.gov or www.wenhamma.gov for details or to sign up to receive reverse-911 notifications.
