Parisella winning money race

BEVERLY — Jerry Parisella has raised nearly three times as much money as Scott Houseman and has outspent him by a more than 2-1 margin in the campaign between the Democratic candidates for state representative, according to campaign finance reports.

Parisella raised $30,045 through the end of August, while Houseman raised $10,741. Parisella outspent Houseman, $17,716 to $7,136.

The list of Parisella donors include Beverly City Councilors Paul Guanci, Wes Slate and Jim Latter; North Shore Community College President Wayne Burton; former Congressman and Hawthorne Hotel owner Michael Harrington; Louise Scanlon, wife of Beverly Mayor Bill Scanlon; and Mary Mavroules, wife of the late Congressman Nick Mavroules. Parisella worked as an aide for Mavroules.

Parisella's biggest expense was the $2,000 he spent for a campaign consultant, Mike McGovern of Lowell.

Houseman received a $500 donation from United Health Care Workers East, a union that represents 300,000 members and retirees in Massachusetts, New York, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Other contributors include former City Councilor Miranda Gooding and Casa de Moda owner Don Preston.

Republican candidate Brett Schetzsle is not required to file his 2010 campaign finance report until Oct. 15 because there is no Republican primary on Tuesday. Schetzsle raised $7,515 in 2009.
