Police: Friend punches friend over fantasy football

SALEM — Police say an Ocean Avenue man was assaulted by his friend on Wednesday night after the two argued about fantasy football.

Officers were dispatched to 176 Ocean Ave. after an 8:52 p.m. report of the incident, according to the police log. The man told them he’d had a phone argument with his friend, after which the friend “walked to his house, asked him to come outside, then punch[ed] him in the face and left.”

Police tried to locate the suspect, but were unable. They also tried to contact him by phone, but “it went straight to voicemail,” police wrote.

Officers advised the victim that he could take out his own assault charge at Salem District Court.
