Free parking in Salem

SALEM — Parking is free today in the downtown.

Mayor Kim Driscoll made the announcement yesterday to encourage Christmas shoppers to patronize local businesses.

The free parking applies to on-street meters, surface lots and parking garages.

“I hope everyone doing their last-minute holiday shopping will keep our local small retailers and shops in mind,” Driscoll said in a statement.
