A customer at the Riptide on Pleasant Street told police at 3:31 p.m. that his truck was somehow moved. It turned up near a friend's house in Salem. The friend then moved the truck to prevent its being towed. The owner later checked and noticed that his car seemed "weird" and his checkbook was missing. A couple seen in the Riptide earlier are suspects. Whoever took it didn't have much difficulty getting it started — the owner left his keys in the truck.

A driver leaving Village Liquors alerted police at 6:35 p.m. to "really sketchy" people in an old Volvo heading toward Swampscott and driving "all over the place."

A woman caring for four kids raised concerns at 6:59 p.m. at Gatchell's Park as "she is freaking out the volunteer employees and keeps trying to pay with a credit card and is clearly under the influence of something," according to the log. Eventually, police say, she left accompanied by "a responsible friend."

Friday

John T. Hodges, 20, 24 Lincoln Ave., Marblehead was arrested and charged with drunk driving following a crash at Humphrey Street and Broughton Road at 12:51 a.m. Participating in the arrest were officers Christopher Adkerson, Roy Ballard and Daniel Gagnon.

An accident with personal injury was reported near the Sylvan Street Grill at 5:57 p.m.

Friday

Police were told at 4:20 a.m. of a possible breaking and entering attempt on Maple Street — someone moved the air conditioner.

An iPod and money were lost in the burglary of a residence on Pickering Court, according to a log entry at 8:24 a.m.

Salem

Friday

Salem police sought an arrest warrant for a man accused of fighting with a woman over a cell phone on Loring Avenue at 1:42 a.m. The dispute extended to Swampscott later where the same man is suspected of grabbing the woman's phone and running into the Swampscott cemetery. The woman's screams drew that town's police.

Manolin Roman Jr., 27, homeless, was arrested on Washington Street by Patrolmen Radames Gonzalez and William Olivieri on charges of aggravated assault and battery, attempted murder by strangulation and violating a restraining order. Roman is accused of approaching a woman he was barred from being near and choking "her with his right arm around her neck as she gasped for air, slamming her to the ground, at which time her head hit the ground and a piece of her tooth came off," according to the log. In addition, it was said he "punched her in the right side of her ribs with a closed fist which also caused her to lose her breath." The woman declined medical aid.

Police will seek an arrest warrant for a man seen driving a car at 7:26 a.m. without proper license plates. The man, who is already known to police, took off when ordered to stop. According to the log, "he failed to stop at the posted stop sign despite several cars in the immediate intersection and roadway." Police followed him and his Cadillac DeVille into Peabody, where his driving "became increasingly dangerous, as he weaved in and out of traffic and traveled at an estimated speed of 70 to 80 miles per hour on Walnut and Mount Vernon streets, narrow city roadways. For safety reasons the pursuit was ended, but police will charge the man with failing to stop, having false plates, driving to endanger and driving with a revoked license.

A woman on Mason Street complained to police at 9:16 a.m. that a man yelled and swore at her even after she asked him to be quiet because she had a small child with her. He then swore at her and spit in her direction. She told police she wanted someone to speak to the man, who left before they arrived.

A key stuck in the ignition proved an expensive flaw for a man on Bridge Street, who told police at 9:35 a.m. that someone had stolen his Nissan.

A St. Peter Street woman told police at 12:06 p.m. that magazine sales people somehow withdrew $20 from her account, even after she explained to them she is blind. The bank will refund the money.

A man on Endicott Street told police at 12:17 p.m. that someone slashed his rear tires.

Those drums — police officers could hear them 20 feet away from the house on Broad Street. They told the drummer at 12:42 p.m. that the noise is unreasonable, and the drumming stopped.

Police checked on a woman crying at the side of the road on School Street. She told them she'd had an argument — no violence — with her husband and was trying to cool down. He confirmed the story. Police gave the woman a ride to her sister's house.

The heat was on after a man dumped an air conditioner on Planters Street at 2:08 p.m. Police had a description and stopped his car. After denying it was him, the man confessed and was sent back to fetch the appliance. Meanwhile, police discovered his registration was revoked for nonpayment of insurance. The car was towed with the air conditioner in it.

A man may need to worry about police after he approached his opponent in a civil case on Hancock Street at 4:44 p.m. and shouted, according to the log, "You don't need to worry about my lawyers, you need to worry about me." Police advised the opponent to contact them if the harassment continues.

A woman already being pursued for shoplifting at Target was the subject of a requested arrest warrant after the security people at the Highland Avenue Walmart offered video evidence of her taking money at the returns window under false pretenses. The story's security head told police at 5:22 p.m. that she picks up discarded receipts in the parking lot, then comes into the store, finds the item on the shelf and brings it to the return window.

Reacting to a woman crying for help, police ventured deep into the woods behind America Way at 5:44 p.m. and discovered a woman trapped in a thorn bush in a marshy area. She told them she'd gone for a walk in the woods behind Salem State's south campus, saw a man who made her nervous, kept walking and eventually got lost for two and half hours. "She was thankful," according to the log, following her rescue.

A kiss is still a kiss, and it was enough to lead to harassment for a girl at Barton Square, who told police at 6:42 p.m. that she kissed a boy during a game of Truth or Dare and has been harassed and threatened with a beating by two former friends ever since. Police called the friends and told them to stop.

When at 6:24 p.m. police saw an 18-year-old boy on Valiant Way with two girls, ages 15 and 14, and marijuana in the car, they gave the boy a citation and took the girls home to their parents.

Police investigated a report of a domestic assault and battery in a car on Boston Street at 8:22 p.m.

Joseph Lewis, 23, and Travis Knorr, 18, both of 7 Mead Court, Salem were arrested at Cabot and Hancock streets by patrolmen Deni Gaito, Rafael Gonzales, Daniel Tucker and Theodore Pierce after a two-car accident in which an infant was in one of the cars. Knorr and Lewis are charged with possessing a class B drug. Lewis is also charged with driving to endanger, speeding, having an open container of alcohol and failing to stop for a stop sign. Both denied ownership of pills — a derivative of Oxycontin, according to police — found in the car.

Andrea M. Leblanc, 38, 7 Fortescue Terrace, Lynn was arrested at 10:09 at 2 Pioneer Terrace by patrolmen Deni Gaito, Rafael Gonzalez and Daniel Tucker on a charge of assault and battery on an elderly or disabled person. The suspect was engaged in an argument with her elderly mother, according to the victim, when she slapped her, then hugged her, then left as the mother called police, who caught up to the suspect on the street.

Keri Marie Famico, 20, 77 Proctor St., Salem and Cassandra Lynne Moffa, 19, 42 County St., Peabody were arrested at 10:18 at the East India Square Mall by patrolmen Gilbert Priddy and James Johnson for having liquor while underage.

Saturday

Scott Christopher Bixby Jr., 23, 18 Shillaber St., Salem, was arrested on Hancock Street at 1:33 a.m. by officers Tracy O'Leary, Radames Gonzalez and William Olivieri on charges of breaking and entering and violating a restraining order. The arrest came after he was discovered sleeping in the basement of a building where his former girlfriend was staying.

Police responded to Wisteria Street at 1:40 a.m. after a woman complained that the father of her child "had been knocking on doors and windows attempting to get into her house." Police note he has three outstanding warrants and a no-trespass order. The woman was urged to call police if he returned.

James Freeman O'Hare, 52, 4 Hayes Road, Salem, was arrested at 3:10 a.m. on Jefferson Avenue by Patrolman Daniel Tucker for driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving with an open container and possession of a class C drug. Police say O'Hare was found asleep in his car, which had been running for an hour in a parking lot. He failed three of three field sobriety tests and had a Vicodin on him, police said..

A car stolen in Lynn was discovered on Congress Street at 6:40 a.m.

Police reported a handgun found on Lafayette Street at 10:15 a.m.

A resident's five barking dogs on Beaver Street got police attention at 11:42 a.m. The homeowner brought the animals inside.

Getting rid of a time-share property is notoriously difficult, and a man on Highland Avenue told police at 1:16 p.m. that he contracted with six different companies that promised to do it for him for a price. None of them did. The man "has been out a lot of money," according to the log, up to $3,000 per company. He's recovered his investment in four of the companies. Now, he's contracted with a new company which promises to get his money back from the other two. He was advised to bring his problem to police as part of the process. No word on the time-shares.

Police will summons a man for driving with a suspended license after he ran through a stop sign at Mason and Grove streets at 6:19 p.m.

One passenger was sent to the Lahey North with a possible arm injury following a two car collision at Mansell Parkway and Proctor Street.

Abiezer Cotto, 34, Salem, was arrested on an outstanding warrant at 7:55 p.m. on Essex Street by patrolmen Brian St. Pierre, Robert Cunningham and Sgt. Kristian Hanson. But subsequently, he was also charged with receiving stolen property.

The camera may yet tell the tale. A youth told police at 8:01 p.m. that two teens took his hockey stick (once valued at over $100) while claiming he owed them money. Police tracked down the accused, who denied taking anything. But the staff at Walgreens, where the alleged theft took place, told police there is a surveillance camera on that side of the building and officers are hoping to get a look at it.
