PEABODY — A teen driver who was involved in a fiery crash in Peabody on Sunday has been cited for operating a motor vehicle recklessly so as to endanger, according to Peabody police.
Police would not comment further, saying only that the matter is still under investigation.
Robert Habeeb Jr., an 18-year-old Peabody High senior, had to be pulled from his burning vehicle by Peabody firefighters when his car veered off the road and flew through the air and into a house on Herrick Road at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Habeeb's father, Robert Sr., said his son was returning from a friend's house when he fell asleep at the wheel.
Despite firefighters describing it as one of the most horrific crash they had ever seen, Habeeb left Massachusetts General Hospital with only a variety of relatively minor injuries.
His injuries included an irritated throat from breathing in the smoke, as well as a few other lumps and bruises, his father said.
When they arrived, the car was wedged against the house, on its side and "fully involved" in flames, according to firefighters. Habeeb was pulled through the passenger window by four Peabody firefighters.
