DANVERS — Police have cited a newspaper delivery driver who reportedly struck and seriously injured a worker on break from a Cherry Hill Drive company in the predawn hours of Dec. 8.
Brent Podmostka, 45, of 1 Iroquois Road, Danvers, was cited for operating to endanger and impeded operation in the days following the accident, police Sgt. Robert Bettencourt said.
Police listed the victim as Jonathan Suarez, 23, of Lowell, an employee of the life sciences company Millipore at 17 Cherry Hill Drive.
Suarez was crossing Cherry Hill Drive around 4:05 a.m. when he was hit by a gray GMC Sierra truck delivering The Boston Globe, police said.
Suarez suffered serious injuries, which Bettencourt described as "nothing life-threatening." Lyons Ambulance took Suarez to Beverly Hospital, and he was later transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman said yesterday that Suarez had been discharged to another facility.
Bettencourt said he had not seen a state police accident-reconstruction report, but Danvers Patrolman Phil Tansey, the investigating officer, told him it appeared that Podmostka may have been distracted by doing something with the papers and was not watching the road.
