Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary will kick off the sugaring season with a February Flapjack Fling on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 87 Perkins Row, Topsfield. The event features a special pancake breakfast with syrup from the sanctuary’s maple trees and offers sugaring tours to learn about the sanctuary’s maple sugaring operation and the transformation of sap to syrup. Breakfast, which includes fruit, juice and milk, will be served at 8:15, 9, 10:15 and 11:15 a.m., and sugaring tours will depart at 9, 10, 11 a.m. and noon. Admission to the breakfast is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 3 to 8. The tour is $9 for adults and $8 for children (Mass Audubon members: $8 adult, $7 child). Children under 3 are free and should be in a baby carrier. Receive a $1 discount when registering for both breakfast and a tour on the same day. Bernard Pomerance’s “The Elephant Man” will be staged by the Salem Theatre Company at their theater on 90 Lafayette St. in Salem through Feb. 15, with performances playing Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 with discounts for seniors ($20) and students ($10) and are available online at www.salemtheatre.com or by calling Ovation Tix at 866-811-4111.

North Shore Community College is seeking applicants for Alumni Scholarships, which are valued up to $1,000, and are awarded to NSCC graduates who are continuing their education in a post-associate’s program at an accredited institution, regardless of the year they received their NSCC degree. Awards are made on the basis of merit, academic scholarship and campus/community service.
