---- — SALEM — A local man is set to be arraigned in Salem District Court this morning after his girlfriend alleged that he attacked her and struck her body against the floor, police said.

Ralph Sciarretta, 44, homeless, was arrested in the area of Lafayette Street around 1:50 a.m. yesterday on charges of assault and battery by a dangerous weapon, intimidation of a witness, malicious destruction of property over $250, attempted murder, and three other warrants, after the victim approached a police cruiser on patrol screaming and yelling that she was attacked, police said.

Salem police Sgt. Fred Ryan said the victim had red marks on various parts of her body, along with bruises and scratches, and was transported to Salem Hospital for treatment.

The victim was coming from her apartment on Lafayette Street, where the attack allegedly happened, when she approached the police cruiser, Ryan said.

Police went to the victim’s apartment but did not find Sciarretta. About 15 minutes later, he was located walking in the area.

Sciarretta was being held at the Salem police station on $20,000 bail last night.
