Salem girl is North Shore's first 2014 baby

SALEM — Georgia Mary Fargo arrived at NSMC Salem Hospital just 26 minutes after the ball dropped in Times Square, making her the first baby born on the North Shore in 2014.

Georgia was born at 12:26 a.m. at 8 pounds to Karyn King Fargo and Eric Fargo of Salem, joining 4-year-old sister, Sophia. Karyn works at Girls Inc. in Lynn while Eric works as a physical education teacher for Marblehead public schools.

Karyn was given a due date of Jan. 4, so she and her husband were surprised when Georgia arrived a few days early, she said.

“It’s definitely exciting,” said Karyn about having the first baby born on the North Shore in 2014. “We weren’t expecting it. It was fun.”

Georgia’s grandparents, Mary and Raymond King of Rochester, N.H., stopped by the hospital’s Birthplace yesterday afternoon to meet their new granddaughter. Georgia’s other grandparents are Harry Fargo and Eileen Lennon of Connecticut.

Despite the early hour, Georgia was not the first baby born in the state, according to hospital spokesman Michael Auerbach. Two Boston hospitals had babies born at 12:02, he said.

Karyn praised the doctors, nurses and staff at the Birthplace for helping with her daughter’s birth.

“They were awesome,” she said.

At Beverly Hospital, the first baby to be born in the New Year was Trinity Moon Lawson of Danvers, who arrived at 2 a.m. at 7 pounds, 3 ounces, according to Beverly Hospital spokeswoman Tina Ketchopulos.

She was born to mother Madison Fuher and father Gil Lawson of Danvers. Trinity’s stepbrother and sisters include Gil Lawson III, Joleigh and Bella Lawson. Grandparents are Lance Fuher of Boxford and Cindy Fuher of Danvers and the late Susan McNulty formerly of Cambridge and Gil Lawson Sr. of Boston.

New mom Madison Fuher said it was exciting to have Trinity arrive on New Year’s Day. Trinity’s stepsister, Bella, 11, was also born on New Year’s Day, she said. Fuher said she had an inkling her baby would be born yesterday, getting her a dress for the occasion “just in case.”
