Salem police probe Planet Fitness locker theft

SALEM — Police are investigating after somebody at the Planet Fitness on Trader’s Way apparently cut the lock off a woman’s locker yesterday morning and then stole her iPad from inside.

Police received a report of the incident about 8:30 a.m. The item stolen was described as a $789 white iPad 2 that had been stored inside a brownish Coach case with flowers on it. The woman said she had locked it up along with her purse inside the women’s locker room.

“When she returned to her locker after working out she had noticed that her lock had been removed and her iPad was missing…everything else in her purse including her money was still there, only the iPad was missing,” wrote police.

Actually, the woman said the lock had gone missing, too.

“She believes it was cut off because she remembers locking it prior to her workout,” wrote police.

The woman approached Planet Fitness staff about the incident, but “they stated they were not responsible for any lost or stolen items,” police wrote.
