Stabbing leaves one injured

SALEM — A 19-year-old Salem resident was arrested after a fight involving a knife broke out on Roslyn Street shortly after noon yesterday, police said.

Alexander Shachook of 5 Heritage Drive was charged with attempted murder, assault and battery by a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, violating a city knife ordinance, armed robbery and two charges of assault by a dangerous weapon.

According to a Salem police officer, the victim, Luis Gomez, 20, was stabbed three times. The injuries, to his back and chest, were non-life-threatening, and he was transported to North Shore Medical Hospital for treatment, police said.

A second person who police said was involved in the incident, Allen Mackey, 18, also of 5 Heritage Drive, was charged with disturbing the peace and released yesterday on $40 bail. Mackey will be arraigned in Salem District Court this morning.

Shachook is being held without bail and will be arraigned in Salem District Court this morning.

Salem police Chief Paul Tucker tweeted details regarding the incident around 5:30 p.m., adding that the Salem Police Department was on the scene within one minute.
