Salem girl found safe after disappearing from yard

SALEM — Police say a 7-year-old girl who went missing from a yard on Summit Street this afternoon was soon found safe at the nearby home of a friend.

The girl's mother reported the disappearance at 4:12 p.m. Lt. Scott Englehardt said the mother hadn't seen the daughter since about 2:30 p.m.

Police sent out a reverse-911 call to area residents about the incident, describing the girl as a white female with dark brown hair, brown eyes, standing about 4-foot-5, weighing 80 pounds, with missing front teeth. She was reported to be wearing a pink coat and black shirt when she went missing.

Englehardt said the girl was found at a friend's house by about 5 p.m.
