SALEM —
The mother of a 5-year-old was arrested today after police said she boarded a school bus on Proctor Street and physically attacked her son’s classmate, a 5-year-old girl.
Dominique Hans, 36, of Heritage Drive, Salem, was arrested this afternoon at her place of employment in Chelsea, according to police.
Police said they were called at 7:20 a.m. after Hans boarded the bus, complaining that her son had been struck by another student the day before. She was described by the bus driver as “crazed” and “determined.” She refused a request to get off the bus and marched to the back, where she asked her son to identify the child who had struck him.
Once he pointed to the girl, the woman began to hit the child, while yelling that the girl was not to hit her son again, police said. The bus driver and other children shouted at her to stop.
Police do not believe the girl was injured, but they described her as “shaken” by the incident.
The school’s transportation supervisor responded to the scene and later quoted Hans as telling him she had complained to the school principal the previous day that her son was “hit” but got no satisfaction.
Consequently, she said, she took matters into her own hands.
