UPDATE: Warrant issued for Salem State stabbing suspect

College confirms suspect Timothy Wells is a student there

UPDATE, 6 p.m.: Salem State University has confirmed that stabbing suspect Timothy Wells is a senior at the college. He took a leave of absence from the college in early September, said Karen Cady, SSU spokesperson.

Police continue to search for Wells, a 25 year-old Woburn resident, and have issued a warrant for his arrest. Wells is wanted for two counts of assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Cady said.

 

UPDATE, 2:48 p.m.: Salem police have released a photo of the supsect in a reported stabbing on a Salem State University shuttle bus this morning.

Police are looking for Timothy Wells, 25, of Woburn, in connection to the incident. Wells is believed to have fled the scene in a 1999 brown Toyota Camry.

Salem State has lifted its "shelter in place" lockdown order this afternoon. Salem police were on hand to ensure dismissal at all of the city's public schools went smoothly this afternoon. Residents were also given a description of the suspect and vehicle in a reverse-911 message this afternoon.

 

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.: Salem State University issued a "shelter in place" lockdown order this afternoon as the stabbing suspect may have returned to campus.

No classes are being held and students are being told to stay where they are, close and lock doors and stay away from windows.

The "shelter in place" lockdown order includes Horace Mann Laboratory School, a public elementary school on the Salem State campus.

Police continue to search for the suspect. Anyone who sees the suspect or a brown 1999 Toyota Camry with license plate 804NTM is urged to call SSU campus police at 978-542-6111.

 

12:15 p.m.: Two people were injured by an assailant on a Salem State University shuttle bus this morning.
