The fifth annual Shamrock Sweepstakes will be held Thursday, March 13, at the Moose Family Lodge, 50 Grove St. in Salem, with more than $13,000 in prizes. Three hundred tickets will be sold for $100, resulting in prizes that range from a first prize of $10,000 to seven prizes of $200. “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will be presented by Beverly High School in the school auditorium Thursday to Sunday, March 13, 14, 15 at 7 p.m. and on March 16 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and may be reserved at bhsonline.org/?page_id=2945. The ensemble includes 70 high school students, a choir of 25 teachers and students from Briscoe and several elementary schools, and a pit orchestra of 20. The biblical saga comes to vibrant life in the musical parable of Joseph, set to a variety of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ’n’ roll.
A St. Patrick’s Day Dinner will be served at Hastings House, 14 Oak St. in Beverly, on Saturday, March 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. A traditional dinner of corned beef and cabbage, boiled potato and Irish soda bread will be served buffet style. Kid-friendly food will be available, along with a cash bar and Irish music. Reservations are requested at 978-922-9705 by March 12 to reserve a seat. Admission is also available at the door for $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.
Salem Public Schools is holding a preschool lottery for residents with children between ages 3 and 4 for placement in the fall 2014 preschool program at Salem Early Childhood Center. Students must be 3 years old before Sept. 1, 2014, in order to enter the lottery. Financial assistance may be available for those with proven need. The lottery process is open to all. For those who are interested in a preschool placement but have not completed the city census, contact the SECC office at 978-740-1181. Also, Salem Public Schools will conduct a developmental screening to locate, identify and refer for special education evaluation any 3-, 4- or 5-year-olds living in Salem who may have disabilities.
