Finalists named for Centerville School principal

---- — BEVERLY — The search for a new Centerville Elementary School principal is down to three.

Centerville School teacher Elaina Bryne, Briscoe Middle School assistant principal Terry Conant and Winchester elementary school assistant principal Julie Smith were announced as finalists yesterday.

The finalists will be interviewed by the School Committee on Tuesday and by interim Superintendent Al Argenziano and Superintendent Steven Hiersche on Thursday. Argenziano said the new principal should be hired by March 28.

The new principal will take over for current Centerville School Principal Karla Pressman, who is retiring.

Bryne has been an elementary school teacher in Beverly for 13 years, including three at Cove School and the last 10 at Centerville. The Swampscott resident earned a certificate in educational leadership at Salem State University in May.

Conant has been a middle school teacher or administrator in Beverly since 2002. He was a sixth-grade science teacher for eight years, a technology instructor for one year and has been an assistant principal at Briscoe since 2011. He has a bachelor’s degree from Plymouth State College, a master’s degree from Cambridge College and a certificate in educational leadership from Salem State College.

Smith has been an elementary school teacher in Chittenango, N.Y., an assistant principal at Lowell Community Public Charter School and assistant principal at Ambrose Elementary School in Winchester. She has a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, a master’s degree from LeMoyne College and a certificate in educational leadership from Syracuse.
