Applications for the $2500 Andrew Metropolis Scholarship, offered by the Peabody Historical Society and Museum, are available at Historical Society Headquarters, 35 Washington St., Peabody, by mail or at the society’s website, www.peabodyhistorical.org. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of Peabody, be a graduating member of the 2014 senior class of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, and committed to pursuing a degree in history, museum studies, historic preservation or political science. Troops 6 and 2 of the Beverly Boy Scouts are holding an electronics recycling event, Operation No Landfill, which raises money for the Beverly Boy Scouts. It will be held on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Immanuel Church, 140 Bridge St. in Beverly. A nominal fee for the recycling service applies. Materials up for collection are TV sets, computers, monitors, radios, microwaves, cellphones, batteries, exercise equipment and air conditioners, among other things. Products that will not be accepted include refrigerators, large kitchen and laundry appliances, gas-powered equipment, car batteries, mercury products or fluorescent bulbs.
