Police took a report of suspected drug activity at 174 Rantoul St., One Stop Market and Liquor, at 4:38 p.m. as two men were reportedly hanging around the store and spending a lot of time in the bathroom. The owner of the store removed a pill from the trash. Both men reportedly had a class A possession on their record, police said. Both stated they were staying with someone at an elderly complex and were no longer welcome there. One of the men was found to have hypodermic needles in his possession.
Police responded to a report of a loose manhole cover in the vicinity of 107 Dodge St. at 6:07 p.m. A resident said the cover makes a loud banging noise whenever cars drive over it. Police called the DPW and were advised this was a state road. Police called a state Department of Transportation official to check out the manhole cover.
Lamar A. Taylor, 38, of 31 Elliott St., Beverly, was arrested at 8:42 p.m. at his residence and charged with domestic assault and battery and destruction of property.
A resident of Railroad Avenue reported at 11:15 p.m. she had been followed by a gray or silver Honda from Stop & Shop on Elliott Street to One Stop on Cabot Street. The car drove past the One Stop. As she drove home, she saw the same car at the Hess gas station down the street. As she passed, the vehicle put on its lights and followed her home. Police advised her to call the department if she sees the car again.
Police took a report of larceny of money at 449 Hale St. at 9:36 a.m.
A motorist was cited at 9:56 a.m. at Dodge Street and Raymond Avenue for a red-light violation and impeded operation. The driver entered the intersection on a red light after being distracted by a small dog jumping in the front seat.
