---- — For a nominal fee, electronics and appliances may be dropped off for environmentally safe recycling at Winthrop Elementary School, 325 Bay Road, Hamilton, on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds go to the 2014 Hamilton-Wenham senior class graduation all-night event. Troops 6 and 2 of the Beverly Boy Scouts are holding an electronics recycling event, Operation No Landfill, which raises money for the Beverly Boy Scouts. It will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Immanuel Church, 140 Bridge St. in Beverly. A nominal fee for the recycling service applies. Materials up for collection are TV sets, computers, monitors, radios, microwaves, cellphones, batteries, exercise equipment and air conditioners, among other things. Products that will not be accepted include refrigerators, large kitchen and laundry appliances, gas-powered equipment, car batteries, mercury products or fluorescent bulbs. Hamilton Hall will host an appraisal day on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with appraisals by Stephen Fletcher and his team from Skinner Auctioneers. Each person may bring up to three items to be evaluated. For items that are too large to move, bring a photograph of the item in its entirety, including measurements, and photos of any carvings, marks, stamps or special features. Appraisal slots must be reserved in advance as space is limited. The cost is $20 for one item or $50 for three items. All proceeds benefit Hamilton Hall, 9 Chestnut St., Salem. The JCC of the North Shore has launched a new Special Needs Inclusion program at its Summer on the Hill camps in Marblehead. Children ages 3 and older who participate in the Special Needs Inclusion receive special support and guidance to help them practice their motor, communication and social skills in a natural setting with their group peers. Children’s Friend and Family Services seeks volunteer mentors ages 21 and older from a variety of backgrounds. Each mentor will be matched with one youth, between the ages of 5 and 18, from the North Shore. Mentors and youths meet every week for at least two hours. Artists who live in Beverly, work in Beverly, are enrolled in a Beverly college or a senior in high school, or are affiliated with an arts guild or arts organization in Beverly are eligible to apply to Arts Fest Beverly: Community Exhibition, a juried exhibition on display at the Manninen Center for the Arts, Endicott College, 376 Hale St., Beverly, from June 4 to Aug. 15, with a reception on June 13. The application deadline for the Danvers Garden Club Scholarship is today. The scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who lives in Danvers and whose post-secondary plans include floral design, landscape design, floriculture, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental science, forestry, earth science (geography, geology or meteorology) or a closely related field. North Shore Community Development Coalition and Salem State University have partnered to present a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to provide income tax preparation to low-income taxpayers throughout the region. This year, SSU’s business school students will volunteer at North Shore CDC, 102 Lafayette St., Salem, to prepare income taxes for low-income taxpayers. Appointments are available through April 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Fridays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. North Shore CDC is an IRS-sponsored site. Ipswich Museum’s Special Sundays winter exhibit, “Focusing on the Child,” is open from 2 to 4 p.m. every Sunday (except April 20) through April 27 at Ipswich Museum, 54 South Main St. The exhibit explores the lives of children in Ipswich through a variety of paintings, photographs and objects. Family-friendly activities each Sunday will complement the exhibit. The regular first-floor museum rooms will also be open for viewing. The Salem Arts Festival invites local artists to submit their work to be considered for participation in this year’s festival. The festival takes place June 6 to 8 along Salem’s downtown corridor and features an art show, street fair, live performances and more. This year’s theme is “spice.” The submission deadline is Friday, April 4. Applications can be found and submitted through the Salem Arts Festival website, www.salemartsfestival.com. The 27th annual Friends of the Hillel Library Educational Forum is set for Sunday, April 6, at 6:45 p.m., at Cohen Hillel Academy, 6 Community Road, Marblehead. The event features a presentation called “The Power of Mentoring” by Josh Kraft, the Nicholas president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and president of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. Dr. Claire Crane and the late Becky Shepard will receive the Edith Bloch Award. The event is free and open to the community. The city of Peabody and the Peabody Institute Library have partnered with Clark Farm to bring a community supported agriculture program to Peabody this summer, and registration is now open. In a CSA program, members agree to purchase products from a local farm throughout a season. This agreement makes members shareholders of the farm, and each week, the farm delivers the products to the library for shareholder pickup. Peabody will offer two pickup times and locations: Tuesdays, 3:30 to 5 p.m., at the Main Branch, 82 Main St.; and Tuesdays, 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the West Branch Library, 603 Lowell St. The 20-week program begins Tuesday, June 10, and costs $300 for a small share and $500 for a large share. Young women who are residents of Salem, graduating from high school and continuing on to college, are welcome to apply for the Anonymous Scholarship, which is awarded based upon a combination of financial need and academic performance. The award can be renewed annually if the student maintains a primary residence in Salem during her four-year pursuit of an undergraduate degree. The application deadline is Thursday, May 1.
