Q: My 2007 Trailblazer with 105,560 miles on the odometer has a grinding noise coming from the front end of the vehicle during hard left-hand turns. The noise sounds like a grinding or metal scraping sound that is not that loud and most noticeable in the morning when the vehicle is cold. The noise is not present during normal operation when the vehicle is going straight or turning in less than a 90-degree turn.
The vehicle is serviced regularly, and no problems were detected at the last oil change in February. The vehicle runs straight and true with no vibration in the steering wheel at any speed. I checked to see if anything was rubbing, and I do not see anything obvious that would be causing the noise. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?
A: A few things to consider would be the wheel-well plastic housing. The backing plate/dust shield for the brakes may be hitting the rotor. The hub bearing may also be failing. Q: I have a 1998 Chevy Astro that I can’t stop from overheating. I have had fan belt, hoses, the fan clutch, temp gage and radiator replaced. In desperation, I bought and had a used engine installed. The temp gage still goes up to three-quarters and most of the time comes back down while still driving. Sometimes, I have to park it and wait several hours to get it to cool back down.
