'Most wanted' sex offender arrested

---- — BEVERLY — One of the state’s most wanted sex offenders was arrested yesterday in Beverly.

State Police said Placido Valdez Jr. was arrested without incident with the help of Beverly police detectives.

Valdez, 34, was included on a list of the top 10 most-wanted high-risk Level 3 sex offenders, which was released recently by state police and posted on their social media sites.

State police said members of the public provided tips that led to the apprehension of Valdez and another sex offender, Victor Quinones, who was arrested yesterday in Taunton.

Valdez was convicted in 2000 of raping a child under 14. He had two outstanding warrants out of Lynn District Court for failure to register as a Level 2 or Level 3 sex offender.

Police did not have more information on Valdez’s connection to Beverly. He was living in Peabody and working in Salem when he registered as a Level 3 sex offender with the Peabody police in 2005.

Valdez was arrested without incident by troopers assigned to the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section’s North team, along with Beverly police detectives.

Valdez was booked at State Police Troop A headquarters in Danvers, where he was being held. He was scheduled to appear in Lynn District Court this morning.
