Motorcyclist killed in crash with lumber truck

WENHAM — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with an oncoming lumber truck on Route 1A yesterday afternoon, authorities said.

The identity of the motorcyclist hadn’t been released as of last night. He or she was pronounced dead after being transported to Beverly Hospital, according to a press release from Wenham police.

The accident occurred on the section of Route 1A near Great Pond Road shortly after 2 p.m. A section of the road was closed to traffic while crews worked at the scene and wasn’t reopened until shortly after 6 p.m.

The driver of the lumber truck sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital.

Beverly police assisted at the scene.

The accident is being investigated by Wenham police and the state police’s accident reconstruction unit, which also responded to the scene.

The Fire Department declined to comment about the crash, and police declined to release any further details.
