Trench collapses on worker in Ipswich, crews on scene

IPSWICH — Emergency crews from across Essex County are working to free a construction worker from a collapsed trench on County Road in Ipswich.

The victim is reportedly still in the trench, which collapsed at a site by the intersection of routes 1A and 133, near the Whittier Hotel. Traffic is being diverted off Route 1A as the rescue continues.

In addition to emergency responders from several communities, crews in hardhats from Essex Co. Technical Rescue are also on the scene.
