Salem, Peabody election results

Thirteen percent of Salem’s registered voters turned out for today’s preliminary election.

School Committee candidates Katie Casiglia and Kenneth Sawicki were eliminated today, after receiving the fewest votes out of a strong, eight-person field of candidates.

Sawicki was also eliminated from the mayoral and Ward 6 City Council races. Salem’s incumbent Mayor Kim Driscoll and her challenger, Cedric Ashley Jr., will advance to the Nov. 5 election, as will incumbent Ward 6 Councilor Paul Prevey and his challenger, Beth Gerard.

In Salem’s Ward 4, council hopeful Gina Flynn was eliminated today; Sean O’Brien and David Eppley will advance to the November election.

In Peabody, former Ward 3 City Councilor Jim “Demo” Moutsoulas topped two opponents in the city’s only race.

Moutsoulas won 315 votes, with Thomas Serino, who has never held office before, scoring second at 243. Former 26-year city Councilor Bill Toomey finished out of the running with 148 votes.

Moutsoulas and Serino will now face off in the November final.

Peabody’s primary saw 14 percent of Ward 3’s registered voters participating.
